Pôle Touristique International La Baule – Presqu'île de Guérande : How to use it
The Pôle Touristique International La Baule – Presqu'île de Guérande (La Baule - Guérande Peninsula International Tourist Centre) (PTI) came out of the 10th State-Region Plan Contract (CPER).
Currently carried by the Communauté d'Agglomération de la Presqu'Ile de Guérande - Atlantique (CAP Atlantique), the PTI is responsible for the development and promotion of tourism in the fifteen communes located in the CAP Atlantique area, between the Loire and Vilaine rivers. A framework convention also enables the PTI to provide marketing and promotion for Pornichet and Saint-André-des-Eaux, attached to the Communauté d'Agglomération de la Région Nazairienne et de l'Estuaire (CARENE).
In order to be eligible for the PTI Policy, the area must meet the following criteria:
> it must have internal consistency and a distinct identity,
> it must have certain potentials for tourism:
- at least 30,000 marketable beds,
- a significant heritage, with sites that are open all year round,
- quality tourist offices,
- guided tour services,
- leisure facilities,
- a programme of entertainment,
> a certain level local effort must lie behind the animation of the area.
Within the context of the CPER, the PTI has set various objectives:
- to make tourist-oriented activity key in the local development in terms of employment and assets,
- to have an advisory role and offer technical support to local actors,
- to work on the organisation of the tourist-oriented offer,
- to participate in enhancing natural, cultural and human heritage.
In this way, the La Baule - Peninsula de Guérande PTI makes sure that the tourist-oriented development of the CAP Atlantique area takes place along four main axes:
Tourist-oriented promotion of the physical area
This happens through:
- the creation of promotional tools (set of promotional documents, website, photo library),
- setting up of promotional events in France and abroad (holiday trade shows, advertising postcards, advertising in magazines and daily newspapers, press conferences, etc.).
The structure of tourist-oriented organisation of the area
This consists of:
- leading the network of tourism professionals in the area (Tourist Office quality control, quality control and service-provider training courses, professional 'eductours'),
- organising the area (tourist-oriented signposting, a policy of providing facilities for motor homes, the development of ornithological tourism, setting up of the 'Coquillages' tourist route, etc.).
Knowledge and familiarity with the area's tourist activity, by means of:
- the economic observatory of tourism (leadership of the CYVEL [CYber Voyage En Ligne]Statistics network, carrying out of thematic studies, etc.),
- supplying the regional CYVEL database.
Setting up tourist facilities
- development of circuits for the gentler means of transport (creation of a network of hiking, horseback, and mountain bike itineraries, creation of a network of cycle tracks, followed by the Vélocéan cycle track project),
- developing the coastline (communes of Batz-sur-Mer, Le Croisic, La Turballe, Le Pouliguen and Pénestin).
The promotion of water sport activities and the area's brand image in terms of watersports, by using the France Station Nautique label as a support:
- leadership of a local network of actors interested in watersports.
- setting up of promotional actions aimed at improving the legibility of the watersports offer and at better responding to new demands from clientele (watersports festival, watersports guide, quality control, press conferences, etc.)
