A visit do not miss !

Guérande, the medieval town, situated in the heart of the Peninsula is surrounded by walls, the most complete in Britanny.

The architectural, religious, military and civil heritage of Guérande is an extraordinary opened book on this knowledge.

The Tourist Board invites you, thanks to various guided tours, to discover the different monuments and treasures of Guérande.

Among the visits not to miss, we advise you :

  • “the show visit” during the dukes period… : From Saint-Michel gate to the Collegiate Church, you will meet historical figures that explain you the middle ages life
  • “Guérande, the historical town” : this visit offers you a general view of the historical heritage of the fortified city.
  • “Guérande, the sacred”: you will access to the Saint Aubin Collegiate Church and also the interior of Notre-Dame-la-Blanche chapel. Do you know that the Collegiate Church is the second most visited religious monument in the region after Nantes' cathedral ? and you will be surprised  to discover that it's in the Notre-Dame-la-Blanche chapel where was signed the treaty ended the Hundred Years' war ?
  • “Guérande, the fortified town” : the circumference of the walls reaches 1434 meters. They are flanked by 6 towers and opened by gates at the point of the compass. It constitutes a unique model of Breton military architecture.
  • “Guérande, the inner city” : half timber houses dating back to medieval period, mansions and houses from 17 century , a lot of treasures…
  • Guided visit of Guérande and museum : you will discover the walls and also the regional history collections relating to Guérande and the surroundings
  • Bicycle tour in salt marshes : it's a 15 km tour that leads you from salt marshes, to typical villages of Guérande…
  • Bicycle tour in the “parc naturel régional de Brière” : Along 15 km, you will discover thatched cottages, typical architecture of Briere and genuine countryside

 

With its ramparts, gates, paved street, ironwork signs, the city is the place for numerous medieval events such as the "Medieval festivals" in May.
